Making room for
every rhythm.
Volunteering at the Museum of Craft and Design, and discovering what becomes possible when we make together.
While volunteering at the Museum of Craft and Design, I supported visitors as they explored weaving. What stayed with me was not one finished piece, but the many different ways people entered the activity. Each person seemed to have their own creativity and their own rhythm for finding it.

Some people began quickly and intuitively. Others liked to follow the steps one by one. One young girl started by weaving in two dimensions, then wondered whether she could build the materials outward into three. Her experiment opened a new possibility, and it was beautiful to see how naturally curiosity led her there.
My role was not to direct anyone toward a single right outcome. It was to trust that everyone could find their own rapport with the weaving—to offer a small prompt, help unblock a stuck moment, or stay nearby when someone needed a little encouragement.
Over time, more visitors came over to talk, ask questions, and brainstorm together. The table slowly became more than an activity station: it became a shared space for exchange, experimentation, and co-creation.
This is what I love about creative spaces. They remind us that making can be communal, experimental, and open to every level of experience. We do not all need to move at the same pace to make something meaningful together.
